But what about lunch!?!

Sometimes you just have to laugh at the situations you find yourself in. For example:

I went this afternoon to a cheesemaking class at one of the community centers where Peace and Hope works. I was interested to learn more about how to make cheese. I have tried here in Santa Cruz, and it hasnt turned out. Maybe the heat? Anyways, I arrive punctual, like a good gringa. The class is supposed to begin at 2:30. At 3:30, the lady who teaches the class shows up. She begins, not by apologizing for her tardiness, but saying that since we are short on time for the day, we will be spending the ENTIRE day tomorrow making cheese together. The women in the class agree that they will come for the entire day. As the teacher explains what exactly we will be learning and making, the women realize there will be no breaks. With 6 milk products on the schedule tomorrow, there will not be time for lunch. Suddenly, all the women began to raise their voices, But what about lunch!?! How can we work ALL day, making and sampling cheese and not have LUNCH!?!

We then spent the next 30 minutes figuring out a way that everyone can eat. The difficult conclusion we came to, everyone bring their own lunch. For a 45 minute meeting, we spent 30 minutes worried about our lunch for the next day. NOT families, child care, or other commitmments. Just lunch.
