A day with no cars

Sunday there was a city-wide ban an the use of all motorized vehicles for the day. It was a day to celebrate walking and biking and cutting down on the smog that covers the city. After church, the four of us walked down our mountain and into town to see what was going on. A long walk, but worth it. Imagine walking through the heart of a city of 1 million people and seeing no cars, only hearing kids on bikes and playing in the street. They should really do this more often than just one day a year. Downtown was full of people in the streets riding and walking, street vendors, our favorite ice cream truck (pictured, which we stopped at twice), and live bands. The whole atmosphere was so different, so calm, so cheerful, although our legs were shot by the time we made it all the way back home.
Other than thiat it doesn't seem like anything too exciting happened last week. Oh no, or maybe we are just getting used to living here! That's not good news for the blog. We'll have to be more intentional about writing things down.
