Mental Snapshots

Life seems so normal here. Perhaps thats why I have left off blogging except for special trip pictures. My line of though is changing however to going back to the States. I'm trying to savor every moment here, and so today I thought I would take some mental snapshots to remind myself of what life is like here. These are all things I saw running around town this afternoon. I think of them as normal, maybe you won't. There are somethings I forget about in the States, like what color are the eggs? They are brown here, someone told me they are white there. Thats weird.

  • Walked by a woman selling her wares in the market. Next to her was her baby who was content in a cardboard box on the ground watching the people go by.
  • Went to the bank with 3 armed guards inside the tiny building.
  • Sat on a bus with other people while the bus had problems arriving to its destination.
  • At least 3 languages while walking around.
  • Saw shops full of clothes with Goodwill price tags. But the price I am asked to pay is more than the Goodwill sticker.
  • Loads of fresh fruits and veggies.
  • Women a full foot shorter than I who were wearing heels.
  • Being attacked by girls selling Avon and being sprayed with AWFUL scented sprays.
  • Passing clothing stores full of only brightly colored halter tops.
  • Passed countless raw chickens laying out to be sold. No refrigeration, no feathers, all the body parts.
  • Seeing just as many pregnant women as non-pregnant women.
  • Pirated dvds and music on every corner.
So, there is a taste.
