I have waited until the last minute to post, becuase I thought Drew might have time to write. But this week has flown by, and we have been swamped with all kinds of things going on. So, here is an update on Drew's Visa process:
Drew is leaving today after classes to go to La Paz where he will be attending a conference on Indigenous Culture and Spirituality, put on by the Latin American Theological Fraternity of which Drew is a part. He is really excited about this opportunity to meet people who are working in the same field as he would like to one day be working. They are dividing up the participants into 3 groups. Drew will most likely be a part of the anthropological group which will be led by a Baptist theologan that lives here in Cochabamba. Needless to say, Drew is excited to meet him and hopefully begin a friendship there.
The conference ends on Monday. Drew will leave from there to go to Puno, Peru again. This time, he will not be able to get another Tourist Visa. He will only be allowed back into the country with an "Objecto Determinado." We have now talked to 3 lawyers, Interpol, and Immigration here, each one telling us different things. Supposedly, Drew should have gotten this OD Visa last time he went to Puno. But, as you may know, relations between Bolivia and the States are not at their best right now. This time have every paper we can think of that Drew might need to get back into the country. Instead of directly applying for a student visa, we are applying for this OD Visa on the basis that Drew is doing volunteer work here for the Baptist Church. This is confusing, I know. There are many more details that I won't go into right now, but basically, if he doesn't get this Visa this weekend, he has to go back to the States. So, your prayers would be greatly appreciated this weekend, and at the beginning of next week.
And, I am thankful that my school does all this work for me!
